Mon 12/10/2009, Porcupine Tree, Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam
Porcupine Tree should be no strangers to most people visiting this site. They have come along in leaps and bounds in the last few years so it was not a suprise that they are once again playing to a sold out Heineken Music Hall. ...more

Sat 10/10/2009, Marillion, Oosterpoort, Groningen
Another gig on the L=M accoustic tour but I think anyone who went would agree that this time the band were really on form and that the audience really responded to the music. ...more

Mon 5/10/2009, Marillion, Leidse Schouwburg
Marillion are back and this time it is with an accoustic set. Even better the venue was in my own home town and within cycling distance. It was a small 500 seater venue and the oldest such theatre in the country and all seated but that should suit an accoustic set. I believe the only other seated concert involving Marillion that I've been to was Los Trios in Boston. ...more

Thu 16/4/2009, Cloudmachine, Patronaat, Haarlem
The last time I saw Cloudmachine it was in the same venue in early 2009 but then as a support at for Dragons. This time they have a new CD and this was the presentation of that CD including some words from Leo Blokhuis. ...more

Sat 11/4/2009, Pure Reason Revolution, Boerderij, Zoetermeer

This gig was part of a two day prog festival, arranged by the IO Pages magazine, that starts on Friday in the Boerderij. Other artists appearing were RPWL, Magenta, PBII, Quidam, and After. ...more

Fri 27/3/2009, Gazpacho, Boerderij, Zoetermeer
Gazpacho following closely on the heels of the Marillion convention were presenting their new album, Tick Tock. It was brilliant to see these guys again and yet again they have produced an album that does not dissapoint. I'd originally seen them supporting Marillion in Zwolle many years ago but I think we can now say they have shaken off the Marillion support act monica and are an outstanding band in their own right. ...more

Wed 10/12/2008, Riverside, Paradiso, Amsterdam
A stunning gig from this Polish group. The first time I saw Riverside was at the Arrow Classic Rock and even then people were raving about them. Lately they are being compared to the likes of Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd. Lazuli, the support, were also a real surprise. ...more

Sun 23/11/2008, Marillion, 013, Tilburg

Sun 23/11/2008, Lords Of The Backstage, Café Bolle
This great Marillion tribute made an early start at 4pm so that we could get ourselves in the mood for the real thing appearing just down the road a couple of hours later. If you have not heard of them I'd be surprised but if that is the case then you might like to know they tend to cover Fish era material but there were some H era covers too. ...more

Sat 22/11/2008, Marillion, Ijsselhallen, Zwolle
From Heerhugowaard to Zwolle. Although I've been to this venue previously it was in a different hall as the original was being used for some kind of love and marriage show. This caused some confusion when I showed up expecting to find Marillion and instead found loads of loved up couples and miles of white lacy dresses. ...more

Fri 21/11/2008, Marillion, Waerdse Tempel, Heerhugowaard
Marillion kicked off the European stage of the Happiness is the road tour in this out of the way venue in North Holland. It was a superb gig with a great mix of material from Happiness and some older material too. I'd never been to anything in this venue previously but it was clearly purpose built and apparently attracts some big names. ...more

Lyrics
Just some words that demonstrate the power of words.

Your mind will find a way to be unkind to you somehow
But all we really have is happening to us right now
Happiness is the road, Happiness is the road, Marillion
When I told a friend the title of this album she knew immediately what it would be about. I really love the message of this song, focus on the here and now rather than worrying about the past or being concerned about the future.

No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
We live on laughing and in no pain
We'll stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today
Estonia, This Strange Engine, Marillion
To Louise, a close friend of ours who sadly died on the 26th of July 2008 after a long struggle. You will be missed.

God is a bullet
and religion is a loaded gun
Absolution, God is a bullet, The Mission
Regardless of Wayne's intentions for this lyric my take on this is the use of religion as a weapon. Not just this current fight with terrorism but the constant justification throughout history for mistreatment of others because of their faith or lack of it.

A bridge is not a high place
The fifty-second floor
Icarus would know
A mountain isn't far to fall

When you've fallen
When you've fallen from the moon
The Great Escape - Falling from the moon, Brave, Marillion

Success is getting what you want
but happiness is wanting what you get
In Silhouette, God is a bullet, The Mission
A good definition of happiness if ever I heard one.

I'm in love with my lust
Burning angelwings to dust
I wish I had your angel tonight
I wish I had an angel, Once, Nightwish
I just love these words. Somehow they are so filthy :-)

You see, without the Truth of the Eyes, the Happyfolk were blind.
Fire coming out of a monkey's head, Demon Days, Gorillaz
However you choose to interpret these lyrics, there is something relevant to us all somehow. Are we the happy folk or are we the strange folk that are mentioned in the rest of the lyrics.
